Erythroxylum coca. The Confused.
The international prohibition of the coca leaf has been debated for decades behind the backs of those who have lived with it ancestrally. In 2025, the World Health Organization reaffirmed the coca leaf’s classification under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, maintaining its status within the strictest global control framework. This decision reflects decades of international policies crafted far from the territories where coca is part of daily life. This documentary travels through ancestral regions of Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia, presenting intimate testimonies from Indigenous and rural communities who share their realities and demonstrate that coca is much more than a crop tied to drug trafficking: it is medicine, ritual, labor, and heritage rooted in cultural identity and collective memory.
